We are a fast-growing company and are searching for strong leaders that believe in our vision, will accomplish our mission, and live our core values. Assistant Brewer for 49th State Brewing, Pub R & D facility in Anchorage, Alaska.

Our Assistant Brewer's role is to work alongside the Head Brewer every step of the brewing process from wort production and cellaring to packaging and line cleaning. We are looking for someone who is creative, dedicated, detail oriented and driven to be a better brewer every day and collaborate to continue to make world class beer every time.

You will get to work different types of experimental hops, fruits and vegetables, spices and herbs, fermentable syrups, malted and unmalted grains, yeast strains, lacto cultures, mixed fermentations, alternative brewing methods, different types of barrels and wood aging, non-conventional ingredients for beer and any ingredient that in our opinion would make for a great interesting beer worth exploring.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with Head Brewer to achieve desired quality and production targets.
  • Complete assigned tasks in accordance with company standard operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
  • Periodic handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Keep accurate daily production records.
  • Continually maintain all beer production areas including equipment – (grain room, brewhouse, cellar, gas tank storage, etc.).
  • Being a 49th State Brewing ambassador
  • Assist taproom staff as needed – (help moving kegs, maintenance & repairs, etc…)
  • Tank management (gravity checks, trub dumps, dry hopping, carbing brite beer)
  • Packaging (kegs, cans on Mancos Twn Monkeys and bottling manual bottler)
  • Barreling and debarreling.

Experience and Education

  • Educational background in brewing or life science, and analytical background is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in beer production.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude with an ongoing sense of urgency.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proven ability to work well with others.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong overall understanding of safety procedures, regulations and requirements.
  • Homebrewing experience is a big plus.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate clearly verbally and written in English, which is the language used in the work environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to dead lift, move, drag 130lbs half barrel kegs.
  • Frequently bend and maneuver around tight/confined spaces.
  • Climb ladders to reach top of 5/10/20 bbl. tanks.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift (8-10 hours)
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, the ability to adjust focus and the ability to see color, either with or without accommodation.
  • The ability to work in loud, wet, cold, hot, indoor, and outdoor environments frequently.
